自民党国際局長の実質２日目、日ギリシャ友好議連会長として東京大学で開かれた国際ギリシャ語デーを祝うイベントに出席しました。
「ギリシャ語はギリシャ人のだけのものではない、ギリシャ人はギリシャ語の守護者だ」というギリシャの文化大臣のユネスコでの英語のスピーチがありますが、これにはオリジナルがあります。
クセノフォン・ゾロタス・ギリシャ中央銀行総裁が行った英語だけどほぼギリシャ語由来の単語しか使わずに行われた１９５年のＩＭＦの年次総会での有名なスピーチです。
つまり英語の知的語彙はほとんどギリシャ語由来だよと言いたいわけです。
